Let's start to understand 'Resources'

What is resources?

Everything available in our environment which can be used to satisfy our needs, provided, it can be technologically accessible, economically feasible and culturally acceptable can be termed as 'Resources'.

Classification of resources

These resources can be classified in the following ways-

●On the basis of origin-

                                        •Biotic

                                        •Abiotic

Biotic resources- All resources which have life and obtained from biosphere.

Example- Flora, Fauna, Fisheries, livestock and human beings.

Abiotic resources- All those things which are composed of non-living things.

Example- rocks and minerals.

●On the basis of exhaustibility-

                                                    •Renewable

                                                  •Non- Renewable

Renewable resources- The resources which can be renewed or reproduced by physical or mechanical process are known as renewable or replenishable resources.

Example- solar and wind energy, forest and wild life.

Non renewable resources- The resources which can not be reproduced by any processes. It takes million of years in their formation.

Example- Minerals, Fossil fuels and petroleum.
